Terms of service

These terms govern your use of Table of Strangers, including registration, matching, payment, and participation in an in-person event. Please read them before creating an account or paying for a seat.

1. Agreement and operator

By accessing the service, creating an account, registering, or paying, you agree to these terms, the privacy policy, the code of conduct, and event details shown before payment. “Table of Strangers”, “we”, “us”, and “our” refer to the operator identified on your invoice or payment receipt. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Eligibility and your information

  • You must be at least 18 and legally capable of entering a contract.
  • You must use one account, your own phone number, and accurate, current information.
  • You must provide your own valid government-issued ID when requested. Verification checks identity against account information; it is not a criminal, employment, credit, or comprehensive background check.
  • You must declare table eligibility, age, relationship status, and other requested attributes truthfully. Material misrepresentation may result in cancellation, removal, loss of refund eligibility where lawful, or suspension.

3. Nature of the service

We provide event discovery, eligibility screening, curation, matching, communications, payment coordination, and hosting. Registration expresses interest only. It does not guarantee selection, a particular person or venue, compatibility, attendance by another guest, or any personal, social, romantic, professional, or other outcome.

We may use stated eligibility criteria, availability, operational constraints, quiz information, and human judgment to build tables. We may decline, defer, or change a pairing where reasonably necessary to operate the service, protect users, or comply with law.

4. Selection, confirmation, and changes

  • A seat is confirmed only after selection and successful payment before the stated deadline.
  • Unpaid or failed payments do not reserve a seat. An expired seat may be offered to another guest.
  • Times, hosts, menus, and venues may change for operational, safety, availability, or force-majeure reasons. We will provide reasonable notice where practicable.
  • If another guest cancels or does not attend, we may attempt a replacement, change the format, reschedule, issue credit, or refund as required by event terms and applicable law.

5. Prices, payment, and taxes

Prices and inclusions are displayed before payment and may vary by event. Payment providers may apply their own terms. You authorise us and our provider to process the amount shown. Unless stated otherwise, optional menu additions, alcohol, transport, parking, tips, and personal expenses are not included. Applicable taxes will be shown where required.

6. Cancellations and refunds

The refund policy and event-specific terms shown before payment form part of these terms. Nothing here limits a refund, remedy, or statutory right that cannot lawfully be excluded. Banks and payment providers may affect timing after we initiate a refund.

7. Venues, food, alcohol, and transport

Events occur at independent third-party venues. Venues remain responsible for their premises, staff, food preparation, licences, and services. You are responsible for disclosing allergies where needed, checking ingredients, deciding what to consume, drinking responsibly, safeguarding property, and arranging safe transport. We do not warrant that a venue can eliminate allergens or cross-contamination.

8. Conduct and personal interactions

You must follow the code of conduct, reasonable host safety directions, and venue rules. You remain responsible for what you say, disclose, agree to, or do with another guest during or after an event. Identity verification does not mean we endorse, guarantee, supervise, or accept responsibility for a guest's character or conduct.

9. Safety and reporting

Our safety measures reduce certain risks but cannot eliminate risks inherent in meeting adults you do not know. Review the safety page, exercise judgment, protect personal information, and leave whenever uncomfortable. In immediate danger, contact venue security and emergency services first. We are not an emergency-response service.

10. Suspension and termination

We may investigate reports and restrict, suspend, or terminate access where we reasonably believe there is fraud, misrepresentation, non-payment, harassment, a safety risk, unlawful conduct, repeated disruption, or breach. We may preserve relevant records and cooperate with lawful requests. Where appropriate and safe, we will provide notice and an opportunity to clarify. You may stop using the service or request account deletion at any time.

11. Intellectual property and acceptable use

The service, brand, copy, designs, software, matching methods, and event materials belong to us or our licensors. You may use the service only for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not scrape, copy, reverse engineer, impersonate, interfere with, exploit, resell, solicit guests, recruit, advertise, or build a competing database.

12. Third-party services

The service may rely on venues, maps, messaging, secure storage, hosting, analytics, and payment providers. Their services may have separate terms and may occasionally be unavailable. We are not responsible for third-party services outside our reasonable control, while remaining responsible for obligations the law places directly on us.

13. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided on an “as available” basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, selection, compatibility, attendance, venue availability, or any particular outcome. We do not exclude warranties, duties, or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

14. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, or consequential loss; lost opportunity, goodwill, profits, or data; or acts and omissions of guests or independent venues outside our reasonable control. For claims arising from a particular paid event, our aggregate contractual liability will not exceed the amount you paid us for that event.

This does not apply to fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence where it cannot be limited, breach of a non-excludable statutory duty, or liability that applicable law does not permit us to exclude or limit.

15. Your responsibility to us

To the extent permitted by law, you are responsible for reasonably foreseeable losses, claims, or costs arising from your unlawful conduct, material breach, deliberate misrepresentation, infringement of another person's rights, or misuse. This does not require compensation for losses caused by our own breach, negligence, or unlawful conduct.

16. Events beyond reasonable control

We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by events beyond reasonable control, including severe weather, public emergencies, government action, transport disruption, venue closure, labour disruption, network failure, or widespread provider outage. We will take reasonable steps to communicate and provide remedies required by law.

17. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by Indian law. Courts with jurisdiction under applicable law may hear disputes. Before filing a claim, please email us for a good-faith resolution. Nothing restricts your right to approach a consumer commission, regulator, court, or other available forum.

18. Changes and contact

We may update these terms prospectively. Material changes will be highlighted or communicated where required. The version accepted at payment generally governs that event. Questions, notices, and complaints may be sent to hello@tableofstrangers.com.
